Hello, I'm foster mom to Magic (aka Madgie, aka Madge), the kitten whose profile you just clicked. Madgie was rescued off the streets and brought to the veterinary hospital where I work. She was absolutely wild in her Hav-A-Heart trap, so we assumed she was feral. We got her into a kennel, and one of the assistants began spending time with her; soon, she would purr and stretch when we petted her, although we could tell that she was enjoying the attention even though she didn't want to. I brought her home to foster her and see how she would develop. Magic was on the street for the first 9 weeks of her life, the first 4 of which are critical for kittens to imprint with humans, so we got her at a tricky stage in her development. For the first couple of weeks I had her home, I only caught glimpses of her. Gradually, she began to pal around with the other cats in the house, so I'd see her all the time, but she would not consent to physical contact. Over time, she began to trust and let me pet her; again, she clearly loved the attention, but her early development made her inherently cautious. Magic is not a cat that will climb onto your lap and sleep on your bed the day you bring her home. She craves attention, but is reticent around people, so you will need to gain her trust (TIP: roasted chicken helps with this matter). She would do well in a home with another cat or two, but not so many that she can use them as "crutches"; She will need a patient adopter who understands that her early days were rough. I promise you that with a patient and kind adopter, she will come around even more than she has with me.
